UA&P Tambuli Awards 2012

Marketing and advertising doesn’t always have to be about who can deliver the most creative message. It also has to focus on how effective a campaign actually is or more importantly how a campaign can impart good values to the consumer.

I’m really happy that I was able to help UA&P’s School of Communications cover the Tambuli Awards 2012. The Tambuli Awards is a breath of fresh air in a world where most advertising messages are only applauded for their creativity rather than if the advertisement truly delivers business results or helps the consumer gain a little more value in his life.

The hosts for the evening, Chiqui Roa-Puno of TV5 and Chris Tiu.

It was a humbling experience being in the same room with the CEOs and Presidents of some of the top companies in the Philippines but it was an even more inspiring experience seeing the Creative Directors and Presidents of some of the most prolific advertising agencies in the Philippines.

I’ve covered a few events before but this by far has to be one of the most high-profile events that I’ve covered. It was hard and taxing (kneeling for 2 hours near the stage is no joke!) but I had a lot of fun doing it. I learned that in an event such as this, some of the photographers present are like sharks. They swim in and out, always darting to the best possible spot to get a good picture. If you come close to their little “hunting ground”, they snap at you defensively until you leave them alone in their little bubble of “love”. It’s a dog eat dog world for photographers at events like these and next time I’ll remember to do a little elbowing and jostling just so I can get the perfect shot.

Aside from that little setback, the awards night was great. The venue was grand and fancy enough for all the VIPs that graced the event and the campaigns that won were amazing in terms of both effectiveness and values imparted.

Like a sir. The tux'ed up trophy boys.

Nestle bagged a lot of prizes that evening topping it all off with the Effectiveness Advertiser of the Year award.

Probably the best thing about the event though was the food. Aubgerine’s was responsible for the catering of the event and the buffet and cocktails were delicious. Unlimited Roast Beef. Mmmm…

I had a great time helping the School of Comm out and I wouldn’t mind doing this again next year. Although I may need to buy some knee pads, grab better camera gear and improve my basketball boxing-out skill.
