My Father's Collection

Some of our fathers like to collect expensive watches, gadgets or cars. My dad likes to collect toys. Not just any kind of toy, he likes collecting die cast replicas of automobile and vehicles.

Ever since I can remember, my father has always had a penchant for collecting things that remind him of the past. Whether it was old photographs, beverage coasters, old tickets or the like, theses items have found their way to my father's secret store houses for safe keeping.

But out of all the things he likes to collect, none of his collections are bigger than his die cast collection of toys. I really enjoy seeing my dad collect these because it makes him happy. The inner child within him is alive in his toys and I am very thankful for that.

When me and my brother left for college, dad also began rescuing all of our old toys from the dumpster. He happily restored them to a 'presentable' condition and displayed them in one of the huge cases he keeps in his 'lair'.

We always wondered why our dad did this since our toys don't remind him of his glory days of being a kid. We found the answer when our mom told us that he rescues all our old toys because they remind him of us, his two little rascals that are all grown up and making fools of themselves in Manila. (cue the proverbial tear here)

As of the moment, my father has an uncountable number of die cast models that dominate the entire second floor of our house. They currently hold residence in our supposed 'guest room' and are now slowly conquering the walkways and library of our house.

It's only a matter of time til these cars make their way to the first floor of our house, but I really don't mind. As long as my dad is happy, the cars can keep on coming.
